Rock and Roll Raleigh Recap

Ok so it has been so long this recap will be a bit off I suppose.  It was supposed to be a 4 day weekend for Tom and I but he ended up with a severe tooth/jaw ache so he ended up staying home.  So Friday I headed down alone.  I was staying with my friends Jerry and Shannon.  I was so excited since I have only seen Jerry once since he moved out of our house.  After picking me up at the airport Jerry and I headed to a burger place in Durham for a late dinner and then headed back to the house.

Jerry and I were up early and he took me hiking.  It was beautiful!  First it was up a mountain and then at an old race track.  We took some pictures.

After hiking we went and picked up Shannon and headed to the race expo.  Since it is a RnR race it was the same expo as every other RnR race.  I met a new friend while there :)  We also went to a flea market that had some of the most interesting items for sale.  We also hit up an art museum.

After the expo we went and got dinner and then they dropped me off at my hotel since I had to be up early.  I didn't realize just how early until I messaged Jolene.  I was FINALLY going to meet her in real life and I was so excited.  She and her husband were staying at the same hotel and offered me a ride in the morning at 5:15!!!  So I laid out my outfit for the next day.  It was my first time wearing my Team Chris shirt!!

Race day I was up super early and headed to the lobby to meet Jolene and Terry.  Luckily the hotel opened the dining room early and I was able to grab a banana since I forgot all food/fuel for race day. We drove down to the race and luckily we left as early as we did as the traffic was crazy!!  We parked and just hung out until it was time to line up in our corrals.  Jolene was much further up than I was and Terry was coming back to my corral to meet up with a friend of his.  Of course there was more photo taking.

Sorry this is blurry guys

Pretty soon we were off....it took quite a wile for corral number 20 to cross but we finally did and the hills started right away LOL.   The start of the course was in downtown Raleigh before we headed into a more suburban area.  Not before getting blessed by a priest - I love the South.

Run Bitches LOL

The Daily Planet.
There was a bunch of horn players on the bridge - it was awesome!!!

The course was super hilly but I loved it.  Half way through the course I came around a bend and saw a Half Fanatics banner.  I stopped when I saw that it had everyones names listed.  We then went past some beautiful houses and I saw the greatest sign!

There were A LOT of fanatics at this race!!!

I was trying to stick to my 3:1 run walk as much as possible.  I stayed in front of the 2:45 pacers until I stopped for the Half Fanatic banner and then with every up hill after they kept getting further and further away.  It was getting HOT.

Boys in kilts.....yes please!!

Cool tattoo place.
When I was about half way done I sent a text to Jerry to let him know that I would be done in about 1:5 hours.  I just kept running as much as I could.  There were bands as all RnR races have but the ones on this course were pretty bad LOL.

Right after these pictures we entered some sort of campus (Jerry told me what it was but I forgot)  This is where we hit the roughest part of the race....and not the course.  There were pictures lining the left side of the course of fallen soldiers and then flags.  I had to stop reading after the first few because of course I couldn't walk during this part and it was just so heartbreaking.

We then were headed back into downtown Raleigh.  Last water stop was a BGR water stop so you know I had to take some pictures of my favorite ladies!!!

I made the turn onto the final stretch and Jolene was waiting and ran with me a few feet and told me she was proud of me <3 I just love her, I needed that.  Jerry was also there to cheer me on!! What a wonderful finish.

Jerry took me back to my hotel and I showered and checked out.  We then met up with our friend Emily and her roommate.  We had a wonderful lunch and then went to more museums.  I will say going to museums in the south and into Civil War exhibits is very different in NC than in NY!!

After a while we had to say bye and head back to Durham to Jerry's.  We wanted to nap before dinner.  I was not able to sleep but I did relax for a bit.  I also registered for RnR DC LOL.  Next up Shannon, Jerry and I went to dinner and it was awesome.

The next morning Jerry and I took Loki for a walk. It is really nice where they live and there are fun things in their neighborhood.

Lokirruito

Loki want a rawhide?

This would never last in NY!
Then on the way to the airport Shannon and I hit up Stitch.  Holly Aiken makes custom vinyl purses that are AMAZING.  We had the hardest time deciding!!  We both placed our orders and finally got out of there.

My flight was delayed but not too horribly.  I didn't care.  I had a great time from start to finish. I can't wait to go back for another visit!!!!

Reebok Spartan Race!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely LOVE obstacle course runs.  I did the Spartan Sprint back in June 2013 and it was THE.BEST.TIME.EVER.  We were not fast but I loved every painful dirty second of it.

And I am not the only one who loves them obstacle race series are becoming more and more popular.  They are not your typical road race or trail run.  Obstacle races are created to increase your strength, stamina and teach you how to laugh at yourself.  You will get dirty, you will be sore but the sense of accomplishment and pride of knowing you finished is all worth it in the end.  I have never felt as bad ass as I did when I crossed that finish line

So back to the point.  As these races get more popular Reebok teamed up with Spartan Races to make a shoe made specifically for these events.

The Reebok All-Terrain Series Footwear Collection offers a number of features to make your SPARTAN experience that much better.  This collection has already been out for a few weeks and is already starting to receive rave reviews.

About the Obstacle Grip:
"So many people were slipping and sliding everywhere and we were just able to fly through the mud."

"I climbed ropes faster and ran through mud easier"

H2O Drain:
"The water drains worked wonder, and my feet didn't feel weighed down at all."

"The water drainage is the best in these, they didn't get heavy or bothersome after a dip in water or mud."

Rock Guard:
"Drainage, rock guards, traction, and overall design prove to be a great product in the making."

"If you run on mountain terrain...it doesn't hurt your feet at all."

Over All:
"I think my feet were the only thing not hurting after the race!"

"After the mud dried up...I took them outside to the hose.  They came clean and looked like new again."

April Fools Half Marathon

Two weeks ago I was heading back down to Atlantic City to run the April Fools half marathon again. Last year I had such fun with my friend Gina so I was really looking forward to it.  Plus I was going down with some of my IGRs!!  I was also staying with Kim and 2 of her friends this year in the Revel.  Bonus - Fran and Janice were going to head down and see me cross the finish line and we were going to have lunch and gamble!!!!

So Saturday I headed over to Danielle's and waited for Jeff and Alicia to pick us up in Kristine's van. We then grabbed her and headed down.  We had such a fun drive down.  Long rides are always more fun with friends.

View from the back-back seat

I look crazed in this picture.....

We got there just before 4pm when packet pick up was over.  We met up with Susan, Jen K and her mom in the hotel then Kim, Colleen and Eileen got there.  We took a couple of pictures and I headed up to the room with Kim, Colleen and Eileen to get ready for dinner.

Kim, Colleen, Eileen and I headed to Carmines for dinner.  It was about 1.5 - 2 miles down the boardwalk.  It was good to get my legs moving after being in the van all day.  Dinner was great but of course both Kim and I forgot to take pictures.  On the way back we saw the sign for Miss America so we just HAD to pose.

We got back to the hotel and tried to get to sleep but there was a birthday party in the next room.  I still do not understand why they were not in the casino or club making poor choices like you are supposed to do in Atlantic City.

When I woke up in the morning Kim and Eileen were already up and had been down to the beach to take sunrise pictures.  We all got ready and headed down to the lobby to meet everyone.  It was COLD!  I was second guessing the fact that I didn't bring anything warm to wear.  I also must have been in a mood when I picked my outfit.  For me this is a very bland outfit.....

We met up with all the ladies and Jeff took some more pictures of us.  Jeff is great, he takes pictures, holds all our stuff and knows whats best for us.  I couldn't decide if I was going to run in my Digital Running jacket or not since it was so cold and he just flat out told me to take it off and he was right.

We headed to line up and I took some picture.  Kim and I had already decided to stick together like in Queens.  She promised to push me a bit but at the same time she was having foot issues.  Colleen started near us but we lost her pretty soon :)

We started off with my usual 3:1 run walk.  I had to pee right away.  Luckily the boardwalk bathrooms were open and no line.  Kim kept on going but slowly so I was able to catch back up to her.  It was a beautiful day and we were having fun.

Around 3.5 - 4 miles down the boardwalk we saw the lead runners coming back down.  They were on the opposite side of the boardwalk than the lead runners were last year.  They did change the course a little bit so we did not get to see the lead women.  We headed off the boardwalk and started looking for our friends.  Pretty soon we saw Jen Q who I assumed was in the lead of all the IGR and then right after was Danielle then Jen K, Eileen Alicia, Kris, Colleen and Susan.  We made stopped by to say Hi to Lucy and then I had to pee again.....so crazy I never have to pee that many times during a run.

I remembered these girls from last year they were clowns.  Too cute.
Kim hit up the bathroom and we decided we needed to step it up a bit to keep it under 3 hours.  Kim wanted under 2:54 if possible and this is where it was great to have her.  I was fading very VERY fast as I always do when I hit mile 10.  I sent a text to Fran to tell her when we would be crossing so they could find me and Kim said no more walking if possible.  When she sets her mind to something she does it.  Thanks to her our fastest 2 miles were our last 2 miles.  And once again we got to cross together and it was great!!!

Thanks Janice for the picture!
We crossed together at 2:53 even.  I didn't see Jeff as we crossed because Danielle was screaming for us from the medical tent.....  ????

The medal is pretty but it is tiny.

When we finished we found out that Jen K was in the medical tent and so was Kris!!  They are both OK but I hate to hear that.  There was NO FOOD left and I was in a rush.  I ran back to the hotel while Janice and Fran waited for me in the casino.  I got read said goodbye to Kim, Colleen and Eileen and then met up with Janice and Fran.  We grabbed lunch and played the slots for a while.  Susan then met up with us and we went to the Tropicana.  Susan ate we played more slots and thenSusan and I headed home.  It was a long ride - this is why I fly but when you are with friends it is fun.

All in all it was a great day.  I know a few of the girls will be heading back again next year but 2 was enough for me.  Next year I will be headed somewhere else :)
