Rock and Roll Brooklyn 10k

The second weekend of October was going to be so fun!!!  The Rock n Roll 10k in Brooklyn on Saturday and then the RoC Race on Sunday.  It is no secret I love the fun runs with mud or foam or color or blow up slides all of it!!!  The government had different ideas for us though.  The RoC was postponed due to the gov't shut down.  I was so bummed because I wouldn't be able to do it the following weekend PLUS a bunch of people were in town for the race and NY Comic Con so they couldn't the next week either.  But we still had RnR right?

I headed out to the hotel right after work on Friday and I can admit that I am sometimes I shouldn't be the one to pick a hotel LMAO.  The hotel was nice but we will just say the area was not.  Matt met me there as we waited for Gabby and Dan to arrive.  I decided to hit the gym and I mention this because that is new....my first thing when arriving to a hotel has never been to find the gym.....

I realized that as per usual my outfit was full of neon....BONUS!  The gym was tiny and there was no display on the treadmill LMAO.  I did a quick mile and we waited for Dan to arrive and then ordered dinner and watched Murder Channel for a while.  I set out my clothes for the next day.

We were up early and headed out when it was still dark.  We had a 2 mile walk to the start.  I realized part way there that I forgot my watch which bummed me out because I was planning on running with Gabby and doing the 4:1 run walk ratio to help her with her first 10k.  We got there pretty early and met up with a bunch of friends.

We met up with Danielle and headed over to the start line.  The fasties went up ahead and Gabby and I headed to her corral.  Dan stayed with us for the start before his gazelle legs took him up to the fasties LOL

Gabs and I had a nice run on a beautiful day through the park.  I pushed her to run a little more than I think she wanted to but no more than I knew she could do.

We even floated across the finish line.
Danielle waited for us and we met up with everyone else before taking some finish photos and heading back to the hotel to get cleaned.

RnR Never disappoints when it comes to the bling!!!

Diva Half Marathon

As many of you know the Diva Half Marathon 2012 was my very first half marathon.  It is still my PR but it was not fun....you can read about it HERE.  This year it was going to be my 9th half marathon in the past year.  After the fun I had at the Rock n Roll Philly half I knew I wanted to have fun with friends so when my friend Kim had concern that she wouldn't be able to run I told her I would run with her even if we walked the whole thing.  My other friend Lorena said she would stay with us as it was her first half and didn't want to do it alone.

I was up early and it was a little rainy but not too bad.  I picked up Darling and we headed to the park.  There were many of my friends running this race so we had a meet up before and most of us made the picture.

We headed to the start and pretty quick we were off.  We for sure started too far ahead to the planned 2:1 run:walk plan was out the window for the first 2 miles because we couldn't stop to walk as it was super crowded.  We were having fun anyway.  Thanks Jeff for the pictures.

Just after the mile 2 mark we headed out of the park, this was absolutely my favorite part of the race. As were were running the people ahead of us were heading back the other way so I got to see many friends and was just cheering and hugging people for 2 miles.  Then as we headed back we saw anyone who may have been behind us.....there was a moment that broke my heart a bit.  I saw my friend Jen who was doing her first half and her friends left her behind...she was so upset and I alms pulled her to come with us but that would have been wrong so I cheered and hugged her and told her she could do it.....I was upset about that the whole rest of the race.  I wish she would have just come with us from the beginning.  I know how hard a run can get if your not having a good time.

Once we hit the 4 mile mark every step was new for Kim and we were just having such a great time.

FYI Whoever put this sign out was an asshole and liar LOL

Around mile 9 is where I hit my wall last year.....I think Kim hit it too.  She started getting into her own head and told us to keep going but sorry lady that ain't happening.  I kept pushing a bit but not too much.  Around mile 10 I saw my friends Chris and Kym so getting those hugs and gummy bears was a nice boost.  We were all getting tired by this point and my feet were killing me.  We grabbed out tiaras and boas ( I still hate that part) and headed back into the park.

We made it around the corner and we saw the finish line......there were signs there for Lorena and Kim but we all missed them LOL.  We headed across the finish line got out medals.

I have no idea what was happening here.....LOL  But Kim was happy!

We did it!!

We had a bit of an after party where we aloo had some food and much needed fun.  Those who were still there took a finishing photo.  Loving all of these ladies and even though I am done doing Diva's I will always run with these woman!!!

Rock & Roll Philly

Ok I know it has been FOREVER for me to get this post up.  Life has just gotten so busy recently.  So my last post told you all about Team Corey and one of the reasons I was running this half marathon.  The second reason was to hang out with my friend Dave and hopefully help him finish his very first half marathon.  You probably remember Dave from my Color Me Rad trip to Philly over the summer.  Well he had a friend who was registered for the race but couldn't run so he decided to take her bib.

As with all races I had to be up super early.  The sunrise outside of my hotel was pretty and I liked how my before picture came out.

I ran down to the lobby to meet up with Dave and the rest of Team Corey to all take the long walk to the start all together.  By the time we got to the start it was warmer so I put my arm warmers in my bag to check and we hit the porto potty and then the start line.

For it being his first half Dave seemed super calm.  I think that is just his demeanor....he is just a very chill person.  I think this one of the things I like the best about him.

Not too long after this picture we were off.  I set my watch to have us run 4 minute them walk 1 minute.  The first part of the race was through a seemingly historic part of Philly.  Dave was telling me all about the buildings we were passing and I think it was helping pass the time for both of us and we were genuinely having a great time.

At around mile 4 we were coming back around to the start line and I didn't have my camera out but I saw the Team Corey spectators so I yelled to them and we got a huge amount of cheers and then right after was Corey and her mom, I don't think they realized who we were but one day Corey will be out there running with us and that is what mattered!!!

When we got to this sign we were about 4-5 miles in and I think Dave was pretty excited as he never ran this far before.  We then started running along a river.  This course is so beautiful.  The 4:1 ratio was getting to be a little much for Dave so we changed it up to 3:1.  He was so awesome, I know he was getting tired and I think second guessing himself but yet never once complained or even stopped smiling.

Right about here we were about five miles in and Dave started to experience something every runner has dealt with and dread.....CHAFING!!!  I think he suffered for a bit before he asked me what was happening.....I told him we would stop at the next medical stop and to just lube it up with vaseline and he would be good to go....I am not sure he believed me but he did it anyway LOL

Dave pre vaseline application...lol

While Dave was in the Porto Potty I thought of Corey.....

Right after the vaseline stop was the turnaround and we crossed a bridge.  I am also pretty sure that Dave's wall was on that bridge.  I saw it in his face but he wasn't going to let it get him down.  He really is such a trooper!!!  I remember the wall of my first half and it is the WORST feeling ever.

I am pretty sure in his head he was thinking "We have to go allllllll the way back down there?!?!"

Back down the other side of the river.  Just as beautiful.  The weather was perfect, we were chatting with people along the course and I was hanging with Dave.  I was having the best time ever.  I decided then that I would rather spend ever long run with people having a good time and not give a shit about the clock.  I texted Christine that we were crossing the 10 mile mark and out ETA since I was sure all of Team Corey was done but I knew that they were all waiting for us.  Everyone was so awesome.  Dave was doing awesome, I know he was hurting, I was getting tired myself but we were having a blast!

After this little waterfall we went around the bend and up the only hill to the finish.  I think he may have wanted to kill be but I am sure he was also pretty excited.

I purchased all the photos here.
As were were walking to meet up with the rest of Team Corey I took my usual picture of my finisher medal....something seemed off but I wasn't sure.

Once we met up with Team Corey we headed back to the hotel.  while walking I was chatting with Brian....you will remember him from the Team Corey post and the Ocean to Sound relay post......in case you forgot who Brian was here is a photo of him that Christine sent me to put on the blog.......
No not all NYC firemen look like this....LOL  Yes we all want to be Christine right now huh?  LOL
ANYWAY I saw his medal was different, and being the awesome guy he is he offered to trade me since he and Christine keep their medals together.

Much better.
Apparently someone stole a bunch of medals so they were giving out generic ones.  They did send the real ones out and since Dave didn't get a time since he lost his chip I gave him mine since I had one from Brian already.

All in All this was probably one of my favorite races.  Everything was great, the trip down with Christine and Brian, being part of Team Corey and spending the day with Dave.  I couldn't wait to do it again.
