100th Post - Color Me Rad Philly

When I logged on to post this I realized it was my 100th blog post!!  Who knew I would last this long LMAO.  I was planning on my next post was going to be my Huma review/giveaway but for 100 I wanted it to be special and so I chose my Color Me Rad Philly post for it because it was a great weekend!!

I headed down to Baltimore on Friday after work.  Thank goodness I didn't leave before the best visitor EVER came to see me!!

This is Brooklyn she owns my running friends Kate and Dave :)

I had a test on the following Tuesday so I knew I would have to study in the airport just like I did for Color Me Rad Tampa.....LOL  My flight was delayed but only by an hour so not too bad.

More Business Law......
I got down to Baltimore and after Gabby picked me up we headed over to a casino for dinner and penny slots with our friend Paul.  We had such a good time but knew we needed to be up early to head up to Philly.  I was reunited with my boyfriend Artie once we got back to Gabby's

After getting up to shower and pack on Saturday we went to breakfast and headed up to Philly.  We went to a diner in Rockville that was AH MAZE ING!  I had the vegan coconut caramel french toast with strawberries....OMGOMG!

After breakfast we headed up to Philly, we were staying at the Marriott right near the Reading Market.  Once we got there we called Dave.  This is a fun part of the story.  Dave and I were friends when we were in 2nd and 3rd grade in a small town in upstate NY.  I moved to Long Island right after 3rd grade was over but thanks to Facebook we reconnected awhile back and when Gabby moved to Maryland we decided to do the Color Me Rad in Philly and I posted about it.  Dave said he wanted to join us so we finally met up again after 30 years!!!  He took us to pick up our packets and then showed us around Philly for the day.  I wanted to see the building with ants on it and he delivered.

He then took us to see this awesome place called the Magic Garden we didn't go inside but just the exterior is amazing.  I have never seen anything like it.

After that we met up with some of my friends Aaron and Lyra who moved to the Philly area not too long ago so we had dinner.  We then wandered around China Town for awhile.  It was just really nice to hang with friends.  We had to get to bed pretty early because we needed to get up early for the run.  I remembered the traffic from both Brooklyn last year and Tampa last month.

Got up early grabbed some tea from the Starbucks in the lobby and headed over to the Please Touch Museum.  There was ZERO traffic so we were there early.  We were meeting two more friends but we found them fast and headed to the start line.  It was cloudy and it sprinkled a few times but it was great that it was not sure hot like it was expected to be.  This was Dave's first ever 'race' so he was super excited we all were.

The run itself was really nice, the trail it was on was great.  The color station volunteers were awesome with the color and encourages us to roll in the color on the ground and also left some of the boxes unattended so we would have our own little color fights.

BEST.DAY.EVER

We hung out for awhile after to take pictures and just hang out before Stefanie and Kevin were leaving.

Best college roommates EVER!

3rd grade to 40 Thanks Facebook.
Jazz Hands

After the run we headed back to our hotel to shower and change.  We then went to get cheessteaks, ice cream and wander Philly for a bit longer.  Gabby and I then headed down to Baltimore.  We had some snacks, hit the aquarium and then she showed me where Charm City Cakes was.  Then a quick flight home and back to work Monday.

Do you still hang out with anyone from elementary school?
How about your college roommate?

Amica Iron Horse Half Marathon Recap

There are two reasons it has been so long before I did this recap.  1. Life is busy but mostly 2.  I had a shit race.  Ok so I am over it now but I am pretty sure this is not going to be a super detailed or long recap because I don't want to open the finally closed wounds.

So I signed up for this race on a whim one day....we all have those days when you just go on a race registration bender and just fill up that calender.  My friend Danielle also signed up so after the LIMA 5k on June 1st she picked me up and we headed up to Simsbury Ct.  I recently signed up for a Marriott credit card so I had a free room for us.  The ride up to packet pick up was fun.  The packet pickup was at a Ford dealership so needless to say no expo LOL.  A quick hotel check in and off to dinner.

Nice view from the hotel

We got back, laid out our running outfits for the next day and went to bed.  We were heading out early because the race was 15-20 min drive and we were not exactly sure how to get there.  On the way there we realized that the "Relatively Flat" description on the web site was a dirty LIE.  We got there parked super close to the race area and after some streaching we headed over to use the porto potties twice :)

There was a 5k, 10k and Half but if there were 2,000 runners total that is a lot. AND it was sold out.  It was crazy hot out and was not sure how I was going to be running (issue #1 already doubting myself before I even start) so I headed to the very back of the pack.

End of the pack and yet I can see the start line....CRAZY

I was across the starting line about the same time as some local 5k's LOL.  The course was very pretty I must say but not flat.  I tried to relax and take some pictures and enjoy the run but I think I already psyched my self out and it was tough from the get go.  It was super hot out but most of course was shady and there were volunteers with water guns along the course.

First runner to head back...so fast!!!

One of the only spectators I saw along the whole course.  She was so cute!!

Water guns!!!

Runners on the other side of the field
There were very VERY few spectators except at the intersection when you either head to the finish or you cross the start again for mile 8.  When I was coming up to this I really REALLY wanted to just cross the finish line and ask for a 10k medal and not a half marathon medal.  After this point I pretty much walked the rest of the way.  It was also around here where I started seeing all the people that were laying on the sides of the roads with IV's and the ambulances started going by on a regular basis.  They also started pulling people off the course.  There were not many of us left and the race workers were keeping a close eye on us.  It was very nice.  A bunch of guys on bikes riding back and forth offering rides, GU, water or any type of help.  They also told us that they had to take the clock down right at the 3 hour mark and that we might not make it.  Right about this point I passed my favorite person of the day.....there was a guy who stood outside for the WHOLE race with his hose and hosed us all down.  I think his hose and the water I kept dumping on my head I didn't pass out.  Funny thing is I always said I wouldn't dump water on me because I hate running in wet clothes LOL.  I have changed my view on that for sure!!!

They also changed the flag warning system to red and were stopping people from running and asking them to walk.  I was glad because that is when I made a couple of friends to walk the last 3 miles with and they were the best 3 miles.

We came around the corner for the last 1/4 of a mile and started to run.  There were still people there and the cheering was amazing and since were were almost last we knew it was JUST FOR US.  It was awesome.  Poor Danielle she was so worried about me hearing all the ambulances and I am usually done for a good 20 - 25 minutes by this point and she sent me a text but I didn't write back because I didn't realize it was her so I ignored it.  We crossed the finish line or what was left of it since they had taken it down already, got my medal and went for water and food.

I realized then that my allergies were out of control and that my throat was trying to close....so fun.  It hurt to eat and drink.  We headed back to the car and I took a few minutes to stretch out and take some pictures.  I posted these on Facebook and Instagram so you may have seen these but it is still crazy that you can SEE the heat and humidity!!!

When I looked up my results it was blank so I asked the race people via the facebook page if I would get a time and they told me no since I came in after the clock was taken down.  They said I had my medal so that proved I finished or something.  They didn't sound like they were being a jerk so I didn't get mad I was just disappointed.  I took a screen cap of my garmin upload and I was at least happy that my moving time was under 3 hours LOLOLOL I do not remember standing still for that long.  Just at the last water stop and for the hose guy.

I did check back a few days later and I did have results and I was NOT LAST!!!  Thank goodness there were 6 more people behind me!!!

I made the realization what day that I need to step back from the half marathon distance for a bit so I decided to skip the half marathon in July that I was going to do with Danielle and Alicia.  I decided to try to follow an actual training program for the 12 weeks I have until the Rock n Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon.  I am not giving up I am just regrouping so I don't get hurt and don't give up because it is never fun again.

Have you ever had to step back and rethink your whole running outlook?

LIMA 5k Recap

I am so behind on posts.....I am so sorry!

Well last Saturday was the LIMA (Long Island McArthur Airport) 5k.  I was more involved that just a runner for this one and I loved it.  I had met the race directors of this race in the local running community and by sheer coincidence they came to my job to make the awards.  While working with them on that I volunteered to help out with paperwork and packet pick up.  So for the last few weeks after I would get home from work and school I would do a lot of data entry and then last Friday after work I went to help with packet pick up.  I had such a good time.  The race had over 2,000 runners and walkers so the pick up gave me a chance to see people I would miss day of because of the crowds.

The swag
Saturday morning my friend Niqui picked me up and we headed over to the airport.  The traffic to get into the airport was CRAZE BALLZ as expected.  I just thought we were early enough to miss it but I was wrong.  It was super duper hot already and I knew that I was going to take it very easy because I had a half marathon the next morning.  Between that and the heat and amount of people I just went directly to the back of the start line knowing that I would take forever to get across the start line and there would be a lot of bobbing and weaving through the crowds when I started but I welcomed that to hold me back too.

When we crossed the start line the Suffolk County Police Department bagpipers were playing for us....probably the highlight of my day.  I ran a bit and walked a lot.  It wasnt hard to take walk breaks with the heat.  It was fun to go out on the runway for sure!!

Right after the mile 2 marker I saw my friend Kim and I stopped to walk with her....it was the best part.  I
have learned that I like to run with people just just in the same race.  We took the turn at the 3 mile mark and we started to run for the finish.......

I am not really sure what was going on here but we were almost done.....lol that is all that mattered.  We hung out for a bit after and chatted with those people we could find but headed home because I had to shower and pack to head to Connecticut for the Iron Horse Half Marathon with Danielle at 1:30 ish.  Now THAT is a whole other post.......

Have you ever volunteered for a race?  Did you love it?
