Doing what you gotta do.

Ok so I checked the FAQ's for this weekend's half marathon and there is a 4 hour limit.  So even if I walk the whole thing I will not go over the time limit.  I maybe last, but someone has to be right?

Besides, I will be there with one of my most favorite people in the world whom I hardly get to see since our schedules are opposite.  This race weekend was actually my birthday gift to her :)

We will be in Atlantic City which after Sandy we almost lost forever, it is supposed to be 50 degrees and sunny so what the hell?

I will run when I can but not beat myself up if I walk a lot, I will take pictures, chat with other runners and just try to remember to have fun.  That is what these things are supposed to be about right?  I will NEVER - EVER win a race so why worry about time?

I will also *fingerscrossed* get to meet my fellow TTC and blogger Kim and I am excited about that!!  She writes a great blog Barking Mad About Running

Hell! I won a tutu from the race directors and even though I always said I would not run a race in a costume or tutu maybe I will for this one.....

How do you feel about running on costume?
Have you ever run or walked a race for nothing but fun?

  1. I only run in costume for the jack o lantern jog in october each year as it is a halloween themed run and my costumes are pretty simple. Superhero shirt, maybe a cape then normal running pants and shoes etc. I am not against it though. If I had a cute tutu, I would so rock it!Debated doing a theme for a mud run but just haven't though we usually sport matching shirts or headbands. Something that makes it easy to find the group as we go our own pace but help each other on the obstacles. As for dead last... I have never known anyone who came in dead last... it is everyone's fear and while someone has to, think about the odds of how many runners, how many different fitness levels, ages etc. I highly doubt you will come in dead last. My first race back into running was a very hilly warrior dash. I walked, I rested and I did not come in last. I checked lol. I mean even with the diff heats it is hard to tell but i saw the posting, I was far from last even when I stopped after some steep hills. You will not be last. I promise. Enjoy yourself. I try not to put too much pressure on if I am recovering from a flareup and have a race that weekend. I still walk part of all of my runs. It is what it is. My health interrupts my training. As runners though we all have to listen to our bodies. Do what you can. And you won't be last. Trust me! Have fun this weekend!

  2. I've never run in a costume and I'll only do it for a fun run, which I've never done either! I think I might be a bit too competitive, but maybe as I run more races, I'll pick a fun one to just run for the experience, maybe the Dash to the Finish Line 5k in Central Park in November.

  3. Wooohooo girl! Go have fun! I love wearing a costume for my races - well not really a costume - but a sparkle skirt for sure. Gets so many compliments! I did dress as Minnie mouse for Wine & Dine, but again it was just a sparkle skirt and mouse ears. I am trying my first tutu for my color run in May :) And don't worry if you have to walk more then u usually do- easier said then done, I know. I walked a lot more during Princess and during the race I was really hard on myself - now though I am just thankful I didn't quit and finished :) Also I once walked an entire 5km, cause I had bronchitis but I still wanted the medal - LOL! GOOD luck and will watch for ur recap!

  4. I have run a few races for fun. I actually prefer them that way so I don't get too caught up in finish times. I have never run in a costume though. Maybe this is the year.

  5. I confess that I ALWAYS run in costume (and a Wonder Woman costume at that) because I know I will never be first. Ever. For me, the costume ends up being a sort of disguise--that I'm not myself, and that I can try out being zany and brave because it's not ... me.

    Does this make any sense?

  9. Good Luck, you will be sure to beat the 4 hours. I was never one for costumes till I started running RunDisney races. Now I can not contain myself and must have an outfit of sorts for each race - not really a costume but more than just shorts and a tank, lol
Cant wait to hear all about it!
